On March 25th, 2026, Martin Van Buren High School media students participated in the New York City Public Schools Film Festival, an annual citywide event that highlights student-created films from schools across the five boroughs. The festival featured a wide range of student work, including short films, documentaries, animations, and experimental media, celebrating creativity and storytelling across NYC public schools.

MVB media classes submitted over 10 projects to the festival, with one student film selected to be officially screened during the event. Students were invited to attend the festival, take photographs, explore the museum space where the event was held, and connect with other student filmmakers from across the city. The experience allowed MVB students to see how their work fit into a larger creative community and gain inspiration from their peers.

Throughout the festival, students viewed selected films created by other schools, many of which focused on personal experiences, social issues, and school life. These screenings gave students insight into different storytelling styles and production techniques, including editing, camera work, and narrative structure. The event encouraged students to think more deeply about how media can be used to communicate ideas and perspectives.

The festival also included an industry and career expo, where students had the opportunity to meet representatives from community media programs and organizations. These sessions introduced students to different pathways into the media industry, including college programs, certificate training, internships, and hands-on professional opportunities.

Overall, the NYC Public Schools Film Festival was an inspiring and educational experience for MVB students. It allowed them to celebrate their own creative work while learning from a wide range of student filmmakers and industry professionals. The event encouraged students to continue developing their media skills and explore future opportunities in film, storytelling, and digital production.
