On Wednesday, November 19th, the Martin Van Buren media class attended an exchange student screening of the anime film The Angel’s Egg at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, giving attendees a chance to explore a movie known for its symbolism and open-ended storytelling. Students gathered in one of the center’s screening rooms to experience a film many had never been exposed to before. From the start, the quiet and mysterious tone encouraged viewers to think deeply and form their own interpretations.

Throughout the screening, students were introduced to new perspectives through the film’s unique visual style and themes. Many found themselves discussing the meaning behind the characters, the setting, and the symbolic imagery. The event also highlighted the work of director Mamoru Oshii and artist-producer Yoshitaka Amano, whose collaboration created a story that invites multiple interpretations and inspires creative thinking in young viewers.

After the film, a Q&A session allowed students to ask questions and share their thoughts directly with the presenters who organized the screening. This discussion helped clarify ideas, deepen understanding, and encourage students to express their interpretations confidently. Overall, the November 19th screening of The Angel’s Egg at Lincoln Center provided a thoughtful and engaging experience that broadened students’ perspectives and strengthened their appreciation for artistic storytelling.
