Starting from Sunday night, February 22 into Monday, February 23, 2026, a snow blizzard struck multiple places, causing NYC public schools to be closed with no remote learning. This snow storm caused worldwide closures including travel bans, power outages, and closed schools.

This blizzard was very unexpected and had caused an abrupt change in many schedules. The storm created 2 feet of snow in many areas with some areas reaching 2.5+ feet. The last snow day before Monday, February 23, 2026, was December 16-17, 2020. This means that it has been about 6 years since a snowstorm.

Since the snow storm hit, school has been canceled on February 23, 2026. Many students wished that school had also been canceled on February 24 due to the snow at the start and many students still recovering from the snow storm. Other students believe that it was important that school was open so students could get back to school and prepare for their upcoming exams.

Overall, this snow day that provided students with an extra day off from school gave students a nice extend from their break. Whether they decide to go outside and play in the snow or just to stay inside and enjoy the warmth indoors grant, this day allows students to relax and enjoy the extra day.
