Principal Nettleford honored at Queens North Tenure Celebration

On November 24, 2025, between 5 pm-7pm, Martin Van Buren students and staff attended a Tenure celebration at the Queens UFT office at Forest Hills.

In this event, teachers from different schools attended this celebration and received awards for their hard work in teaching students. The event was joyful and fun with a band playing music, students singing, and lots of delicious foods and savory desserts for everyone to enjoy.

During this event, Martin Van Buren’s and our principal, Ms. Deborah Nettleford received a tenure principle award. We are so honored and grateful to have such a dedicated and amazing principle as our leader and guide. We are thankful for her service to students, staff, and the school community.

Students showed their appreciation for their staff by singing Christmas songs, playing musical instruments, and taking pictures to capture the moment. The Superintendent, Dr. Hoa Tu, gave a speech and handed the teachers their awards and congratulated them on their accomplishment.

This event was a great way for the school community to come together, bond, and celebrate each other's achievements. Every school staff felt appreciation and celebrated for their work and heart they put into teaching their kids. They took a group picture which showed the unity of the school community.
